Enrollment conditions for the International English Section. International English Section
The enrollment requirement of the admissions test for the International English Section is subject to the official text concerning all international sections but also subject to specific conditions according to the internal policy of each school.
At Collège MIGNET :
Admissions Test for Grade 6 :
– The Admissions Test is scheduled in April. The enrollment for the test usually starts at the end of January and ends 3 weeks before the date of the test.
– Students enrolled in a public state school or a private school registered by the state are required to pass two exams in English ( written and oral ) as well as an interview in French to determine whether the student would need to have French as a foreign language lessons or French as a second language lessons.
– Students enrolled in a private school which is not registered by the state are required to pass the English exams (written and oral) stated in the paragraph above. These students are also required to pass a written test in French and Math for admittance into the primary or middle school entrance level of a public state school.
Admission into grade 7, grade 8 and grade 9 :
– Admission for students already attending middle school and who are interested in entering the International English Section will depend on the number of places available and reserved only for students who are registered in collège Minget and who belong to the school district. The admissions committee will examine the application :
– Based on the academic grade point average
– Already enrolled in Collège Minget
– Students returning to France after living abroad and studying at a French School overseas within the Anglo-Saxon culture, or studying at the local English school of the residing country.
– Students having sturdied at a French school abroad within the Anglo-Saxon culture or studying at the local English school of the residing country.
– Students having studied at an International English Section in middle school, both abroad or in France.
Based on the pedagogical criteria for academic recruitment and meeting the standard requirement for an International section.
– An oral admissions test given by the head of the International Section.
– Academic record and GPA
– Based on the capacity to succeed at studying in a bilingual program. Students must have the linguistic competence as their mother tongue or as an original native language (vocabulary, linguistic and reading competence) and the awareness of the Anglo-Saxon culture.
Why the International Section ?
The International English Section at Collège Mignet is part of the public education system with both French and international foreign students in the same class. Students completing the middle school program will graduate with a state middle school diploma with a specific option as “ The International Middle School Diploma”. The international English Section has 3 objectives :
– To welcome and promote international foreign students into the French education system and being given the opportunity of returning to their original education abroad upon completion of their studies in France.
– The opportunity for French students to study a foreign language based on the standard English requirements.
– To promote the Anglo-Saxon Culture within the French education system.
Student admission profile :
– Anglo-Saxon students of all nationalities.
– Multicultural students with a double nationality or bilingual in English and French.
– French students who are extremely motivated with a high proficiency in English.
Both French and international foreign students with the required language proficiency level in French and English may enroll for the International English Section.
The students of the International English Section will not be eligible for French as a foreign language classes.
Student admissions test for grade 6 will be held every year in May for students who are eligible.
The admissions test is conducted in English with an 1hour and 30 minuses for the written test and a 10 minutes oral test.
There are very few places left for students in grades 7,8 and 9.
Pedagogical requirements :
The program for the International English Section is based on 4 hours of English ( literature, theater, language and grammar ) per week given by state qualified native English teachers.
The classes in History and Geography are in English and also required as part of the French program. These classes develop the language comprehension and the immersion into understanding the history of the Anglo-Saxon world.
There are many extracurricular activities for students throughout the school year, such as exchange programs abroad, field trips and cultural activities highlighting the Anglo-Saxon culture like thanksgiving and halloween.
Diploma
The students of the international English Section will pass a specific exam to attest the bilingual language proficiency level in English and will graduate with an International Middle School Diploma.
Students with the International Middle School Diploma are eligible for passing the International High School admissions test.
L’accès aux tests d’admission à la section internationale est régie par les textes officiels concernant toute section inter mais aussi aux conditions particulières posées pour chaque établissement scolaire.
Au collège MIGNET :
- accès en 6ème :
— des tests d’admission sont proposés courant avril. L’inscription à ces tests commence en général fin janvier et se termine 3 semaines avant les tests eux-mêmes
— les élèves issus d’une école sous statut public ou privé sous contrat avec l’état doivent passer deux épreuves de sélection en anglais (écrit puis oral) ainsi qu’un entretien en français pour déterminer si l’élève peut relever d’un soutien spécifique en Français Langue Etrangère ou Langue Seconde.
— les élèves issus d’écoles privées hors contrat avec l’état doivent, en plus des tests proposés à tous les candidats (cf. paragraphe ci-dessus), passer deux épreuves, l’une de français écrit et l’autre de maths écrit, qui doivent attester d’un niveau de cycle 3 pour réintégrer l’enseignement public.
- accès en 5ème, 4ème ou 3ème
Le recrutement des élèves intéressés pour intégrer la section internationale en cours de parcours, sur des places laissées vacantes, est exclusivement réalisé après inscription au collège (donc s’il y a des places vacantes, et exclusivement pour les élèves de secteur).
Une commission d’admission classera les dossiers :
● en fonction de critères de parcours scolaire :
— Être déjà scolarisé au collège MIGNET
— Retour en France après une période d’expatriation et avoir été scolarisé soit dans un établissement français de l’étranger à dominante anglophone ou en intégration dans le système scolaire anglophone du pays concerné ;
— Avoir été scolarisé dans un établissement français de l’étranger à dominante anglophone ou en intégration dans le système scolaire anglophone du pays concerné ;
— Avoir été scolarisé en section internationale de collège, à l’étranger ou dans un autre établissement scolaire en France.
● En fonction de critères pédagogiques répondant aux objectifs de recrutement et de travail d’une section internationale :
— un petit test oral sera réalisé par le professeur de la section internationale
— sur les résultats scolaires ;
— sur la probabilité de réussir dans ce programme d’éducation bilingue. Les élèves doivent donc avoir des compétences linguistiques en langue maternelle ou quasi-native (vocabulaire, compétences linguistiques et capacité de lecture) et des affinités avec la culture anglo-saxonne.
Mais qu’est-ce qu’une section internationale ?
La section internationale anglophone au Collège Mignet est intégrée à un collège public et accueille dans une même classe des élèves français et étrangers. Les collégiens en fin de troisième peuvent obtenir le diplôme national du brevet mention "série collège, option internationale". Les sections ont trois objectifs :
– faciliter l’accueil et l’intégration d’élèves étrangers dans le système scolaire français et leur éventuel retour dans leur système d’origine
– permettre aux élèves français de pratiquer une langue étrangère de manière approfondie
– favoriser la transmission des patrimoines culturels du pays concerné.
Profil et conditions d’accès des élèves
– Elèves anglophones de toutes nationalités.
– Elèves binationaux ou bilingues anglais-
– Elèves francophones possédant un excellent niveau d’anglais et une forte motivation.
Peuvent s’inscrire dans la section internationale, les élèves français et étrangers dont le niveau est suffisant pour suivre l’enseignement général en français et les enseignements spécifiques en anglais.
Les élèves de la section internationale ne sont pas éligibles au cours de FLE.
Des épreuves d’évaluation sont organisées tous les ans pour le niveau 6e au mois de mai.
L’épreuve consiste en une évaluation écrite (1h30) et un entretien oral (10 minutes) en anglais.
Actuellement très peu de places sont disponibles pour les niveaux supérieurs (5e, 4e et 3e)
Fonctionnement pédagogique
Le programme d’études de la section anglophone consiste en 4 heures de cours hebdomadaires dispensés entièrement en anglais par des professeurs anglophones : littérature, théâtre, langue, et grammaire.
Les cours d’Histoire-Géographie en anglais complètent ceux dispensés dans le cadre du programme français. Ces cours privilégient la compréhension et l’analyse des faits historiques en mettant l’accent sur le monde anglo-saxon.
Des activités extra-scolaires accompagnent les élèves tout au long de leur apprentissage : voyages éducatifs et activités culturelles liées à la culture anglo-saxonne.
Diplômes
Les élèves de la section passent des épreuves spécifiques attestant leur niveau de bilinguisme et acquièrent le brevet option internationale.
